A woman is kidnapped and her body is found burning on a remote Highland mountain. Frenchman’s Luc Callanach’s first day with Police Scotland finds him dealing with a murder investigation. Another woman is soon taken and found dead in similar circumstances. When a third is taken, Luc knows time is running out…

I really loved this – I loved the characters of Callancach who has a shady past and DI Ava Turner, a colleague and friend. The crimes were gruesome and I was routing for them to solve it. We know whom the person is who is committing the crimes and how he is doing it and it is fascinating reading about how they start to piece the puzzle together.

The story and writing put me in mind of Jeffrey Deaver and Karin Slaughter. Helen Fields writes characters well, including the males in the story. I’m really looking forward to reading the next instalments with these same characters (but I hope there is no love story between Callanach and Turner as I think they work better as friends).

Published by Avon Books, the next book in the series is Perfect Prey, followed by Perfect Death (which has just been released). Perfect Silence is expected in August 2018.
