All the Wrong Places centres around Paige, a marketing executive who has recently split up with her boyfriend, after he slept with her cousin Heather. Back living with her mum Joan, she decides to join a dating app to try and meet someone new. Her mum is also on the look-out for a new man, having recently being widowed.
Paige’s best friend Chloe has just discovered her husband Matt has added himself to several dating apps – he tries to pretend it isn’t anything important but Chloe chucks him out and files for divorce.
Mr Right Now is a good looking man whom Paige is attracted to immediately when she spots him on the app and they make contact with each other. But we know that actually Mr Right Now is actually a sadistic serial killer, who stalks dating sites, looking for women he can lure back to his apartment to torture and kill.
Yet again I’m glad I’ve been married 20 years and don’t have to negotiate the horror of online dating, especially when there is a sadistic murderer preying on women!
This was such an exciting novel. I did that thing (that I’m sure all bloggers do) when you suddenly realise a review is due. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to read and blog about it before my date (especially with Christmas evenings out this week) but I literally sped through this in two days – I literally couldn’t stop reading.
This is a thrilling read but there are also some great relationships between women in it. I really liked the relationship with Paige and her mum – both looking for love, they are encouraging of each other. Joan is keen for Paige to find happiness after what she has been through and although Paige initially finds the thought of her mum meeting a new man a bit weird, she just wants to see her happy. Most of the men however, don’t come across too well!
Mr Right Now and Paige are messaging each other all through the novel and it makes for tense read, knowing what he is capable of and wondering what will happen to Paige.
An absolute page-turner, I really enjoyed this thriller and the ending was satisfying (that may sound a bit strange but if you read it you’ll see!) Joy Fielding is a new author for me and I’ll be recommending this book to people.
