29 year old Evie is an assistant at a film agency dreaming of being agent and looking after her own clients, but instead ends up getting her boss Monty out of sticky situations.  She is tasked with trying to convince the agency’s biggest and most difficult client, Ezra Chester to finish the script for a Hollywood rom-com.  The catch? He hasn’t even started writing it. He is suffering with writers block and sees writing a rom-com below him.

Arrogant Ezra will only put pen to paper if singleton Evie proves to him you can fall in love like they do in the movies – through a “meet-cute”.  Evie is about to find our that love is never as straightforward as in the movies!

I really fancied a light and fluffy read and this was brilliant!  Long suffering Evie is a lovely character – and her meet-cutes result in some very funny situations.  She tries “accidentally” spilling her drink on someone, she tries leaving her phone number in a book, she takes a road trip with a stranger and even joins an erotic book club. She has some good friends and this is one the things I really enjoyed about this book – Evie works very hard and sometimes ends up messing up with her friends, but they still care for her.

Every chapter opens like a movie script setting the scene and I loved this.  We are also treated to emails between Evie and Ezra and text messages between Evie and her friends group and I enjoyed the variety this gave. I loved that she her friends have nicknamed Ezra, NOB (Number One Boychild).

This really felt like a rom-com film and I would love to see it as a movie – I see Emelia Clark playing Evie!  I’ve moved away from romantic fiction over the years but having picked it up again during the lockdown and I am so happy to have found these books again. There were no huge surprises but I just really enjoyed this book! It made me smile! And we all need that at the moment!
