Falling in love just got sweeter in this charming, romantic YA graphic novel from WEBTOON, the #1 digital comic platform. Ray, a young seer struggling with her powers, discovers first love and friendship in her town’s magic bakery.

In a very special town, there’s an even more unusual bakery with a selection of baked treats hand-crafted to help your dreams come true. For Ray, a quiet young woman with special powers of her own, the order is always the same: a hot tea with a delicious side of romance.

When Ray meets Laurie, the kind barista who aspires to be a professional musician, she gets a real taste of love for the first time. But even with a spark of magic, romance isn’t so simple. Both Ray and Laurie are chasing their own dreams and even when Ray starts to see the future, she can’t predict her fate with Laurie.

Based on the beloved webcomic from WEBTOON, this sweet coming-of-age story of friendship and first love comes to life in graphic novel format with gorgeous illustrations and exclusive content.

Having enjoyed reading Heartstopper over the last few months, I’m keen to read more graphic novels, so when I was offered a copy of Crumbs, I jumped at the chance.

Set in a magical universe, Ray is a young woman who is a Seer and has high ambitions for a spot on the Grand Council of Sorcerers. Every week, she goes Marigold’s magical bakery where the treats are made with names like Anticipation and Confidence. Ray always sits in the same place where she orders a tea and a slice of Romance. She soon gets to know the owner’s nephew Laurie, a musician trying to hit the big time, who invites her to an open-mic night and their romance starts to blossom.

Both Laurie and Ray struggle with finding their place in the world. Ray has always been sure she will be on the Council, being a talented Seer but she doesn’t feel she quite fits in and she knows she’ll have to leave her life behind if she becomes a full member. Laurie is still mourning the death of his parents and is one the few people who hasn’t got his flying license and starts to feel uncomfortable with Ray’s powers to see into his mind.

Some of the parts of the book where Ray is working at the Council were a little long and drawn out and not as interesting as the other parts of the book. I loved the idea of the magical aspects, the flying and the mobile phones with cute little characters who are almost the owners friend. Overall, this was a sweet and charming romance. I read a proof copy so it was in black & white but I have seen some of the illustrations and the colours are vibrant and eye catching.

Crumbs started life as a digital comic on the WEBTOON digital comic app and has been collected into this lovely graphic novel. Aimed at young readers aged between 12-17, Crumbs is a story about young love and finding yourself.

Thank you to HarperCollins for my gifted proof copy.
