Lou Clark knows how many miles lie between her new home in New York and her new boyfriend Sam in London.
She knows her employer is a good man and she knows his wife is keeping a secret from him.
But what Lou doesn’t know is she’s about to meet someone who’s going to turn her whole life upside down.
Because Josh will remind her so much of a man she used to know that it’ll hurt.
Lou won’t know what to do next, but she knows that whatever she chooses is going to change everything . . .
Having listened to The Giver of Stars this year, my love of Jojo Moyes was reignited! Having read and loved Me Before You in 2012 and After You in 2016 I decided to listen to Still Me and get another Neglected Faithful off my TBR!
Following Louisa Clarke’s story, continuing on from After You, she has made a life changing decision to travel and work in New York! Her friend Nathan has found her a job as an assistant to Agnes Gopnik, the 2nd much younger Polish wife of Leonard Gopnik. Initially finding herself out of her depth, she soon gets used to the Gopnik’s and the life of luxury they lead. She misses her boyfriend paramedic Sam dreadfully but she is determined to try living in New York for a while before settling down back in the UK.
She becomes almost a friend to Agnes, helping her to navigate the world of the socialites who really don’t like or respect her as a second wife. But is brought home to her however much Agnes treats her as a friend, she is ultimately just an employee.
The story follows Louisa for a whole year in New York, and the people she meets including Ashok, the Porter at the building where the Gopnik’s live whose wife is determined to save the library in Washington Heights and grumpy old Mrs De Witt who lives in the building with her beloved dog Dean Martin and seems to dislike everyone.
Louisa has her ups and downs with Sam while she is away – his first visit is a disaster when he gets food poisoning and they can’t do the sights she had planned and then he gets a sexy new female colleague and Louisa can’t help but feel jealous.
I loved being with Lou again. She is such a fantastic character – she has had her fair share of blows but is eternally cheery and optimistic. She is kind and funny and you can’t help to want to see her be happy. The setting of New York was just amazing and made me want to go back.
I listened to this on audio book and the narration was brilliant. The narrator Anna Acton does all the accents and voices of the characters to perfection and made it an absolute joy to listen to. This whole series is highly recommended by me for the ultimate feel-good story and Still Me, finished up the series brilliantly (although I do hope for more from the world of Louisa Clarke one day!)
