So what do you have planned this week? I have a mixture of good and bad. 🙁 Bad = dentist, horrible work situation. 😁 Good = book event in London with @lovedreadingthis, @keeperofpages and hopefully others. I'm very excited about this. It feels like ages since I've got together with some bookish friends. Set in the early 1900s, The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E Harrow tells the story of a young girl called January who discovers a magical door standing in a field that leads to another world, but when she goes back the next day she finds it is destroyed. When she is older she discovers a tatty old book called The Ten Thousand Doors that tells her all about a woman called Adelaide and her travels through doors to find adventure and love. This one started a bit slowly for me. It beautifully sets up the story but it didn't really get going until about a third of the way through, at which point I raced through it. With lots of threat and adventure, January is a likeable and plucky heroine who has some wonderful loyal friends and a faithful doggy companion! One for fans of magical realism, 4/5 from me. Who's read The Testaments? I got my copy at the weekend but I think I'm going to hang on a little bit. The anticipation is really high and I've heard so many great things that I think I'm going to wait! I did think it would be good to reread The Handmaid's Tale first. And then I saw that a graphic novel adaptation has been released so I'm going to read this first instead. While looking through my shelves for the #animaltitlebookstack I noticed I had quite a few books that were bird related. What a marvellous little book!  A collection of 25 short essays, this is a book every woman should read and have on their shelves!  Some of the "Life Lessons" that immediately piqued my interest were You're Not the Worst Mum in the World by Robyn Wilder, The Power of Saying "No" by Reni Eddo-Lodge (need to work harder at this one!) and Eleven Stories About Grief by Anna Fielding.  All these essays are great pieces of inspirational advice and at 3-4 pages long, they are easily digestible. This is the sort of book I think every woman should own - not all of the essays will be relevant to every woman but as we go through our lives, I think most will be useful at some point or other.  It is a book I would give to my daughters if I had them!
