Good morning! I’m thrilled to be sharing my publication day review of The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman for the blog tour today!
It’s the following Thursday.
Elizabeth has received a letter from an old colleague, a man with whom she has a long history. He’s made a big mistake, and he needs her help. His story involves stolen diamonds, a violent mobster, and a very real threat to his life.
As bodies start piling up, Elizabeth enlists Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron in the hunt for a ruthless murderer. And if they find the diamonds too? Well, wouldn’t that be a bonus?
But this time they are up against an enemy who wouldn’t bat an eyelid at knocking off four septuagenarians. Can the Thursday Murder Club find the killer (and the diamonds) before the killer finds them?
I was so excited on completing The Thursday Murder Club to hear that Richard Osman had written a second book – The Thursday Murder Club was in my top 10 of 2020 and I think it is safe to say I loved The Man Who Died Twice even more!
Returning to Coopers Chase retirement village and to the Thursday Murder Club members who are former spy Elizabeth, former nurse Joyce, man about town Ron and former psychiatrist Ibrahim – the action kicks off straight away when someone from Elizabeth’s past gets in touch – he has stolen £20 million worth of diamonds and is in a safe house, being kept hidden from the Mafia.
People start dying and Elizabeth and the gang have to solve the murders as well as trying to track down the diamonds. What I love about these books is the characters – each main character is very different but a joy and the secondary characters are also brilliant (I was thrilled to see Bogdan the builder return in this book). There were truly some laugh out loud moments which I find is rare in novels as well as a cracking storyline.
Osman is a talented writer being able to balance characterisation with a genuinely clever plot. I love that the characters, although old are capable and independent and I love their relationship between each other. In short, I loved everything about this book – with warmth and humour, it is a joy to read and is just wonderful!
Many thanks to Ellie at Penguin for the proof copy and for inviting me on the blog tour. You can check out the other bloggers who are shouting about this book below

I listened to the audiobook of The Thursday Murder Club and thought the voice actor did a great job. I hope she narrates this one, too. Whenever I think of Ron, good ol’ union organizing Ron, I can only picture Irvine Welsh, which makes my heart happy. I do hope there is a bit more of Ibrahim in this book. He seemed to be the least present of the four.
